History

Founded by UNESCO-Rila affiliate poet, Mbizo Chirasha, WordCity was created by Commonwealth Writers Prize shortlisted author, Darcie Friesen Hossack. Originally housed under the umbrella of Time of the Poet Republic from August 2020 to April 2021, it grew into this space with its May 2021 issue.

About us

We are an international team of eight all-women editors from Canada and the U.S., Romania, Australia, the U.K., Kenya and Cameroon. We are writers, poets, scholars and literary activists, sharing the belief that the world can be changed one story, one poem, one person at a time.

Our focus

In partnership with Mbizo Chirasha and Time of the Poet Republic, we are committed to lifting up a global community of writers, from those receiving their first publishing credits to major award winners. Our goal is to show diversity in our editorial choices, while also selecting exquisite content and craft.
